Dutch medical system
Finding a General Practitioner (huisarts, GP or family doctor) is higly recommended when you are settling down in the Netherlands. The GP practice is your link into the medical system because it enables you to get a referral to any specialist in the hospital. Your health insurance might not cover the costs of a medical specialist if your GP has not given you a referral note.
You will need to register with your personal data and social security number (BSN). The GP’s assistant (a medically trained professional) will often also ask for your health insurance to verify that your costs are covered. All relevant bills will be sent directly to your insurance company.
On our website you can find information about our practice. You can also find more information about health problems. If you want to ask a question to one of the GPs, you can use our webportal or send us an email.
